Supporting BC families with Odlum Brown Limited

Supporting BC families

DFKC and Odlum Brown — A renewed partnership to support families in BC and across Canada.

With fentanyl and other potent drugs tainting street drugs like cocaine, meth, heroin and fake prescription pills, experimentation with these drugs has become a very dangerous game.

This is a serious issue for families across the country, and informing and educating parents and families about youth drug use is extremely important.

In 2022 most (90%) of all accidental apparent opioid toxicity deaths in Canada occurred in British Columbia, Alberta, or Ontario.

Each province faces different challenges when it comes to the substances that youth use in their area. Having a clear understanding about what is happening in their region can help parents ensure that their conversations with their kids about drug safety are relevant to what is happening in their communities.

To do this, DFKC must be able to offer parents, guardians and stakeholders the information and tools that meet the specific needs of their region. That’s why we conduct a follow-up study with parents and young people every two years.

This year, thanks to the generous support of Odlum Brown Limited, we’ve been able to specifically survey parents and teens about youth and substance use in British Columbia, and attitudes towards drugs in this province as compared with the rest of the country.

We’ve shared some of these pertinent findings in the updated BC section of our Regional Resources page.

For 100 years, Odlum Brown has been dedicated to doing what’s right, and we are passionately committed to supporting the communities where our clients and team members live and work. We are pleased to partner with Drug Free Kids Canada, an organization that shares our values and commitment to investing in our communities’ future: our youth. By providing a one-stop, inclusive space offering evidence-based resources and information, DFKC helps families nationwide navigate the current mental health and substance use landscape. We are proud to support their important work.

We’re grateful to be able to provide this information for parents in British Columbia, and we look forward to future collaborations with Odlum Brown.
